Salyris Studios Develops a Community Site Powered by Joomla! for
The Silver Knights Alzheimer’s
Charity: http://www.thesilverknights.org
 We worked closely with Patrick A. Ellis, Founding
President & CEO (National Head of the Silver Knights Alzheimer’s
Charity) to build him a community site using Joomla! CMS. The mission of The
Silver Knights Alzheimer’s Charity “is to provide free chess lessons and/or
play chess with adults primarily over 40 who live in nursing homes, assisted living
facilities, hospitals, senior centers and other difficult circumstances who may
be physically or mentally challenged, to bring a fun distraction and to
brighten their day as well as to prevent Alzheimer’s Disease.”
Listening to Patrick’s needs carefully, we developed a Joomla!
Community website using these three main Joomla! extensions together: Community Builder,
GroupJive and FireBoard Forum to allow him to communicate with the growth of expected
group members he hopes to see in the future. Since Community Builder/GroupJive/FireBoard
Forum work so well together, it made the most sense to use this combination for
his budget. We will continue to support his site and administrate as needed. It
is a worthy cause and he a very giving person, so we hope others will donate to
the cause.
About the Organization: Research has shown that learning to play
chess can help to reduce the chance of getting Alzheimer’s disease by 60%. It
is important for the physically challenged and the elderly to exercise their
minds in a fun way while their bodies are healing.
Funding Needs: The Silver Knights cannot possibly exist without the
support of the community—foundations, corporation and individuals. The Silver
Knights depend on the support of people like you. Your donation of time or
money can make a huge difference in the lives of the elderly.
